The elevator in the hotel lobby is waiting for us. We step inside, and as soon as the door closes and we’re alone, I can feel the electricity like a physical thing between us.

Zoe moves closer to me and presses her hand to my chest. “I feel like I need to keep touching you.”

I have to laugh. “I thought it was just me,” I say, covering her hand with mine.

The doors open and I step out of the elevator, leading her down the hall. When we get to my door, I stop and fish my key card out of my wallet.

She touches my chest again. “Your heart is racing,” she says.

We lean in the open doorway and kiss again, slower this time, deeper. “I’m thinking about the promise I made to you this morning.”

“Mmm. Promise?” she murmurs into my mouth.

“You get to come first.”

She gasps and lets out a little laugh. “Oh. Then you better get me inside before the neighbors see.”
